milindgMemberWhen I create a new EJB project with MyEclipse 3.8.2, I get a problem message ‘Missing ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor in META-INF folder’.
What can I do to get rid of this?
How can I generate the Home, LocalHome, etc files from a CMP EJB that I create??
Please respond asap – we have already spent 2 weeks trying to get this stuff to work.

You need to create a ejb-jar.xml file. This will usually be generated for you when you run the XDoclet task.
How can I generate the Home, LocalHome, etc files from a CMP EJB that I create??
First create the type of bean you want via the File > New > J2EE> EJB wizard. Then edit your project properties and go to MyEclipse-XDoclet, right click in the top box and add “Standard EJB”. Be sure to configure the parameters accordingly. Now from here you should be able to right click on your project, go to MyEclipse and “Run XDoclet” to get the generated files.

If you have spent 2 weeks trying to create a new EJB with MyEclipse, then we need to do some MAJOR HCI testing 😛
Honestly though, those tutorials I sent you will get you on the right track.

GregMemberIn addition to Riyad’s suggestions, you can go through this tutorial to give you a jump start on EJB development with MyEclipse.

milindgMemberRiyad – I think something that is desperately needed is some detailed documentation – along the lines of this tutorial written for Lomboz (http://www.tusc.com.au/tutorial/html/index.html). Creating an EJB is easy enough – but there are several steps after that – for which the only choice seems to be to jump into hand-coding XDoclet!!
For example – (a) create CMP bean (b) add/modify CMP fields (c) add/modify finder and select methods (d) add/modify CMRs.
THEN the fun starts – (a) deploy to an app server (b) have it auto create the CMP database tables (c) add additional SQL for the target database (such as TRIGGERS, INDEXes etc).
There is a HUGE GAP between creating a simple CMP bean and getting it to actually do something useful.
I hope there is more to the IDE than a place holder for XDoclet tags 🙁

What does Lomboz currently do that MyEclipse is not doing for you?
September 28, 2004 at 7:30 pm #216340
milindgMemberActually – Lomboz also drops me into editing XDoclet tags once we are past the simple wizards that create the Bean and define a few fields!! I am hoping that MyEclipse will do more than that.
I would like to stay focused on getting some detailed instructions to accomplish the steps that I outlined above …
(a) Create CMP bean (b) add/modify CMP fields (c) add/modify finder and select methods (d) add/modify CMRs.
(a) Deploy to an app server (b) have it auto create the CMP database tables (c) add additional SQL for the target database (such as TRIGGERs, INDEXs etc) (d) load bootstrap master data (e) start application
If you can provide the instructions to do that – including detailed XDoclet steps, I will send you a case of your favorite beer.
