Hi,

My problem is that Eclipse freezes when I do “Help / Software Updates / Find and Install”.

I have set up the proxy correctly for http under “Window / Preferences / Install Updates”. I have automatic updates set to check for updates each time the platform is started, and this works successfully.

Any ideas would be gratefully received, as there are some more plugins that I need to get this system the way I need it.

What comes to mind is that you might just be running out of RAM at that point and the system begins to thrash. I’d suggest updating your startup alias to include the memory settings we recommend in the FAQ here.

Thanks for the quick reply Scott. This didn’t fix the problem as I have these settings already.

I have managed to get the “find and install” working by logging onto a wireless network (one without a proxy!). Now I can find and install no problem.

So it looks as though the “Automatic Updates” is using the proxy settings, and the “find and install” isn’t…!

Is this a bug?

you’ll see that there are lots of bugs having to do with proxy support in Eclipse in various usages
