Just downloaded your product, but it fails to install with
the message “Could not load jvm.dll”.

I have JDK 1.4 and Eclipse 2.1 installed and working.

I checked the InstallAnywhere website, and found following
    message:

    http://gamma.zerog.com/devnet_l/uT.jsp?page=kb/viewKB.jsp&itemID=278

    Could this explain my problem?

    Silvain,

That’s excellent research and the error is identical to what you are seeing. However, the installer was generated with the latest release of Install Anywhere Enterprise (v5.0.7). According to the posting you referenced, this version of install anywhere should be fine with JDK 1.4. Which exact version of JDK 1.4 are you using? Could it be a beta or older release? Perhaps Zerog fixed the issue only for the GA version or for 1.4.1 or something? What do you get when you run java -version?

    Java version:

    C:\>java -version
    java version “1.4.1_01”
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode)

    Windows platform: Windows 2000 Professional

    Exact message when starting installer:

    “Can’t launch executable
    Could not load jvm.dll

Try re-installing the Java JVM or change the Java VM used by the application”

I believe the folks at zerog may be providing good advice here. I hate to recommend it, but perhaps uninstalling the JVM and reinstalling the latest 1.4.1 JDK (build 1.4.1_02-b06) would be the most direct way to resolve this since we know at some point zerog did have a compatibility problem with at least certain releases of JDK 1.4.

Sorry I can’t provide more sage guidance, but it really does appear to be a JDK incompatibility, either caused by the version you’re running or some subsequent installation that may have whacked it a bit.

Please download and try using the All-In-One installer from our download site. That should fix the problem.
