It would be nice to know what will be included in linux and what will not.

When I read the product road map, I find the jsp debugger is only supported in windows 🙁 , however the following release, I can not tell if linux support is added, or just not specified.

I think – as long as you are making only a partial product for linux, it would be nice to at least know what is an what is not supported in linux.

HTML Editor – will have/not have linux support (which version)
javascript editor – will have/not have linux support (which version)
other non-supported items for future versions.

Quick update: I’ve asked someone from management to follow up, in the meantime here are internal notes (no ETA on anything, just getting you guys in the know):

1) Work on cross platform designer started a while ago. There were some technical hurdles that we thought wouldn’t make it happen that we made it over, so it *looks* like things may work out just fine. There is a still a lot of work left to do though.

2) JavaScript editor wasn’t made cross platform just because we wanted to get the feature out and properly tested on our predominate platform. However, there is nothing platform specific about this code, so just more work and testing to get it on other platforms.

Thanks for the update. A question. How is #2 above not “cross platform”, yet not “platform specific”. Does it just require some testing on Linux/GTK? Or are we not using Java anymore?

I’m not trying to flame or anything – love the product – as a Linux user I’m just genuinely interested in knowing why it’s done this way.

I’m not sure of the implementation details but in my very brief discussion with the developer there is “nothing Windows-specific going on”. So I think it’s just an issue of no testing to make sure it works on Linux/Mac yet.
