christweekieMemberHi
I am having BIG problems with pulse. Can anyone out there simply tell me how to turn it off ? I tried both options when installing MyEclipse 7.0 and I just can’t make it go away. It clearly has problems with proxies which their dev. staff can’t sort out. I can’t update ANY of the software now.
Now I can’t install locally managed or software from the network, either using pulse or not. I get this error
Unable to load catalog
Error running procedure for [class com.genuitec.pulse2.model.RealmBlueprint-loadBlueprint]I wasted the whole of my Friday morning trying to get MyEclipse installed and because of pulse, it failed. For paid-for software, this just isn’t good enough. Why did Genuitec tie themselves so strongly to this ?
Before the failure shown above, I tried to launch the pulse explorer in MyEclipse 7.0. It popped up a progress bar saying that it is validating connectivity then fails. The entry in the .log file indicated a proxy validation issue. I fiddled with internet settings and I got pulse explorer to pop-up the authentication username /password which I entered (correctly!) but still pulse fails.
Genuitec – PLEASE don’t rely so heavily on third parties !!! Or if you do, PLEASE test it properly. I am not your beta test site.

Riyad KallaMemberChris,
You can turn this off under Window > Prefs > MyEclipse > Dashboard and uncheck the box then restart.
If you had any spare sanity left, we would love to get network logs from you to see what is failing using the FAQ tip here if you had a chance.
We are really sorry about this, we actually did a lot of proxy testing before the release — but it looks like we missed some cases. Are you using NTLM authentication by chance?

Thanks for the reply. Yes – we use NTLM authentication here. I suspect NTLM isn’t that rate in workplaces worldwide. I have tried to follow that tip but it didn’t help. Although it has been updated since I last looked at it this morning 🙂
Do you mean the “Show MyEclipse Dashboard on startup” ? I unchecked it but still get this
“An internal error occurred during: “Initializing TargetCfg”.
NtlmCredential required for NTLM authentication.”when I start MyEclipse. Also I STILL get a dialog for the proxy authentication when going to Add/Remove software.
Apart from all the wasted time, I am also disappointed in the breach of privacy and trust that has happened here. Without that much fanfare, MyEclipse now talks to poweredbypluse upon startup, without asking for my approval or telling me that it is happening. That’s quite bad. You should at least ask me whether this is OK.
I also can’t understand why the pulse implementation is so bad. Everything else network-based works fine by using the standard network settings in Eclipse.

This is odd because I thought you said that checkbox would stop pulse being used. It apparently STILL connects with pulse, without asking/ telling me. Whatever the outcome of this, you NEED to stop this happening. I do not want pulse involved in the management of my plugins. Period. That is part of what I pay Genuitec for, isn’t it ? Perhaps I should just use Eclipse and Pulse.
Anyway, it looks like the comms work through the proxy but I haven’t been logged in to pulse. At no point did I get asked for my username/password for pulse. But then I wouldn’t, would I, because I haven’t asked to use it !!!

Riyad KallaMemberChris,
Can you do me a favor that would really help us out with figure out what is going on:
1. Shut down MyEclipse
2. Go to the <Genuitec Install Dir>\Common\logs directory and erase all the files
3. Go to the <Genuitec Install Dir>\MyEclipse 7.0 directory (it might be called something else or located somewhere else if you changed that during the install)
4. In that directory there is a myeclipse.exe file, you can edit the myeclipse.ini file and add (-Dcom.genuitec.pulse.client.wire.debug=true) without the parens on the last time and then fire MyEclipse back up.At this point if you can cause the add/remove to fail again, and then shut down MyEclipse and zip up that /logs dir and send it to me? support@genuitec.com ATTN Riyad with a link to this thread, those logs will help us dig right in and figure out what is going on with NTLM as well as the add/remove failure and get that fixed.

christweekieMemberUpon startup, I see an error dialog which says
‘Initializing TargetCfg’ has encountered a problem.
The details area has this
An internal error occurred during: “Initializing TargetCfg”.
NtlmCredential required for NTLM authentication.Accessing “Add or remove software ” then asks for my NTLM authentication credentials. I enter these (without the domain or asking to save the details). The pulse window appears but I then get an error saying that “An unexpected error occurred loading the software catalog” The details says this
Unable to load catalog
Error running procedure for [class com.genuitec.pulse2.model.RealmBlueprint-loadBlueprint]I’ll email the logs now.

Riyad KallaMemberChris, we got them, they are sent off, NTLM is fixed and a fix should be going out today or tomorrow (you’ll see an update in the Dashboard for “Pulse Services”). I also emailed you a workaround on how to disable the saved credentials which is what is causing the failure.
December 18, 2008 at 12:07 pm #292452Could you tell us where the fix is? I have the same problem.
Thanks!

brentroyacMemberHi,
Struggling with NTLM proxy issue. Get the prompt when I go to MyEclipse > Manage MyEciplse Plugin
I do not get the dashboard either.January 29, 2009 at 1:53 pm #294135
Riyad KallaMemberbrentroyac,
A workaround to get NTLM working long enough to pull down the 7.0.1 patch that fixes it is as follows:
==========================
Make sure this is not the fixed NTLM issue that we had right after we released MyEclipse 7.0. If you are still on 7.0 (and not 7.0.1) and experiencing this issue behind an NTLM proxy, you won’t be able to get correctly connected to your proxy at all. The fix is to drill down to the <Genuitec> install directory and erase the following file:
Common/configuration/com.genuitec.pulse2.common.http/connection.storageThis will remove the cached (incorrect) NTLM credentials and allow the correct login to take place. DO NOT re-save your credentials when logging back in *until* you have gotten the 7.0.1 update listed in the Dashboard on startup in MyEclipse and applied it. After restarting with the 7.0.1 patch, you are fine to save the credentials then.
