Every time I start MyEclipse it is hanging on with a progress meter in the bottom that says
“Quick Update 6%” and it hangs making a the entire ide useless.

This happened both with 5.5 and 6.0 versions of MyEclipse.

I can’t find a preference to turn this off.
    What is this feature?
HOW DO I TURN THIS OFF?

This is killing me as I am trying to change from 5.5 to 6. Every time I switch between them I run into this.

You can go to Windows > Preferences > Install / Update > Automatic Updates and uncheck the Automatically find new updates and notify me.

It was already unchecked. That is what has me baffled. I saw that before and nothing was selected and I cannot find any thing else that deals with updating automatically

    Todd,
Can you try restarting using -clean as outlined here?
    https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/troubleshoot-using-the-clean-command-line-argument/

we had an old bug that we fixed that had this exact same behavior (the quick updater would run into the builder thread I think and both would deadlock). Although if you can get into the platform, you can turn off the update check under Window > prefs > MyEclipse > Community Essentials
