riqbalMemberHello,
We have installed MyEclipse version 8.6 and migrating project from RAD 6.0 to MyEclipse. In addition to this we have installed WebSphere server Version 7.0 and jdk 1.6 to work with MyEclipse. We have imported our application from CVS. Once application is imported we have used MyEclipse Migration tool to convert project from RAD 6.0 to MyEclipse 8.6. We are trying to deploy project on server but it doesn’t appears to be working as we don’t see any project on the server startup. We do see project started when we see WebSphere Enterprise project on MyEclipse/WebSphere 7.0 admin console.
Below is the deployment log when we deploy our project on WebSphere 7 which we configured to run on MyEclipse.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

support-shaliniMemberriqbal,
Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you give us some more information on this?We are trying to deploy project on server but it doesn’t appears to be working as we don’t see any project on the server start up.
Are there any errors logged in the log file located at workspace dir > .metadata > .log when you access your application?
Also, can you clarify if you are using the same version of websphere for both RAD and MyEclipse?
Currently migration of projects within the same WAS version is supported, please refer to the following link for further reference –
https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/problem-when-trying-to-deploy-a-project/#post-308930October 12, 2010 at 11:40 am #311949
riqbalMemberShalini,
Thanks for the response. I do not see any log under workspace dir> .metadata > .log. MyEclipse is not able to pickup and deploy code/workspace to the WAS 7 server we have configured to work with MyEclipse in our local machine.
We are migrating from RAD 6.0 to MyEclipse 8.6. We actually went through this http://www.myeclipseide.com/documentation/quickstarts/blueedition/project_migration/ to migrate our project. We thought this suggest RAD projects can be migrated to MyEclipse.
RAD 6.0 is running on Window 2000. We have installed MyEclipse 8.6 on Windows Vista. Please correct me if I am wrong, if I understand it right than you are suggesting that we cannot migrate RAD 6.0 project to MyEclipse 8.6. What is comparable RAD version to MyEclipse 8.6. What is your suggestion for us. What should we do to migrate RAD 6.0 project to MyEclipse 8.6. We are upgrading our PRODUCTION environment to WebSphere 7.0. We would like to use MyEclipse for our development and then deploy code to the servers in all of our environments.
Again thanks for your response and look forward to hear from you.
Thanks,

support-shaliniMemberriqbal,
I shall escalate this issue to the dev team.
They will get back to you on thisOctober 13, 2010 at 3:19 pm #311972
riqbalMemberShalini,
Thanks. What are you going to escalate? Is it why we are not seeing the log file under dir> .metadata > .log or you are going to let your DEV team know why MyEclipse does not support RAD migration to MyEclipse even they are not comparable in verions. Like, in our case we are migrating from RAD 6 to MyEclipse 8.6. Also I didn’t get any answer on what are MyEclipse comparable version to RAD.
Look forward to your response on this.
Thanks,
RashidOctober 14, 2010 at 1:42 am #311977
Brian FernandesModeratorRashid,
1) MyEclipse can migrate RAD projects to MyEclipse Blue. Your case of RAD 6 to ME 8.6 should not be a problem, unless you see errors reported during migration process that indicate that migration has failed.
2) From the deployment log you have pasted in your first post, it appears that deployment has succeeded without any issues.
I have a few questions:
a) Were your projects already set to work with WAS 7 in RAD 6? Or was it deploying to another version of WAS? During migration the wizard would have asked you to either specify the location of WAS on your system, or choose our inbuilt libraries. Which option did you choose?b) How do you start the server? Are you suing MyEclipse Server view to do so?
c) Are you sure you have configured MyEclipse to start the right WAS 7 profile?
Can you send us a screenshot of the configuration page for the server? You can mail it to support@genuitec.com with a link to this thread and subject “ATTN Brian”.d) Do you see any output in the console when attempting to start the server? Please also keep an eye on the error log view (Window > Show View > Other > General > Error Log) – you may want to clear the log before starting the deployment and the server.

riqbalMemberBrian,
Thanks for the reply I appreciate that. Sorry for getting back to the forum late. I am a bit confuse, Shalini in his reply dated October 12 told me that RAD 6 project cannot be migrated to MyEclipse 8.6 as they are not comparable versions i.e. according to Shalini only RAD 6 project can be migrated to comparable version of MyEclipse (whatever MyEclipse version compare to RAD 6). As I understand MyEclipse Blue 8.6 running Websphere 7 server is not comparable to RAD 6, where we are migrating project from. Please help clarify this. But from your post it appears that there should not be any problem migrating RAD 6 project to MyEclipse 8.6.
I appreciate you asking all the questions. Here are my responses to your questions:
1 – I did not see the errors while migrating project from RAD 6 to MyEclipse. After installing MyEclipse we configured our connection to CVS. We imported code/project from CVS into MyEclipse and then used MyEclipse > Enhance RAD project to work with MyEclipse to enhance/migrate project to MyEclipse.
2 – This is good to hear that the deployment went ok but the issue is that we don’t see our project at the server startup. I am not sure if our project is deployed to the server we crated. I am not able to access project using http://localhost:9080/…. or http://machinename:9080/….
Answering your other questions:
a) No, project was not already set to work in RAD 6 with WAS 7. Our RAD 6 is installed in a different machine. That machine is Windows 2000 machine. We are installing MyEclipse on Window Vista. So during our project migration I believe I selected use inbuilt libraries because there is no other way as RAD 6 is not installed in Window Vista machine. That’s why after installing MyEclipse on Window Vista machine we did a CVS import to import project into MyEclipse on Vista.
b) Correct, I am using MyEclipse server view to start the server. Note: we have downloaded, installed and configured WAS 7 server to work with MyEclipse.
c) Brian, I am not too sure. When I configure profile system gives me an error. I am sending you two screenshots one when profile fails and the second the configuration page of the server. I will send you through email as you suggested.
d) There are errors on the Error log. I am sending you the screenshot of the error log file as well.
I appreciate all your help on this.
Thanks,

Brian FernandesModeratorRashid,
We received your screenshots. Let me clarify what Shalini said earlier. If you had a RAD project that you were deploying to WebSphere 6, you cannot migrate it to MyEclipse Blue and expect to deploy it to another version of WebSphere, like 6.1 or 7. If you wish to deploy to another version of WebSphere, please make these changes in RAD itself, before attempting to enhance the projects in Blue. I’m afraid there is now way around this right now.
1) In the server view, after the server is started, if you right click WebSphere 7 and choose “Open Admin Console” does it open?
2) As I mentioned earlier, if you are deploying to a different version of WAS, please make sure you make this change in RAD before enhancing the projects. Also, before enhancement, make sure you have the target WebSphere installation installed (i.e. WAS 7) and do not use inbuilt libraries, but point it to the WAS 7 installation. This solves many deployment issues
3) When I said “profile”, I was talking about your WebSphere profile, nothing to do with Profiling applications, please do not attempt to profile your application.
4) A screenshot of the errors in the log does not help. The error log is a text file that can be exported, you can send us that text file directly.
5) Since you are deploying on a Vista machine, Blue may need some administrative privileges. Can you right click the blue shortcut and choose “Run as Administrator” to start Blue instead of double clicking it and then try to start the server and deploy to it.?

riqbalMemberBrian,
Thanks. So it appears the setup of MyEclipse we have on Window Vista, that is MyEclipse Blue 8.6 running WebSphere Server 7.0 cannot accomodate porject migration from RAD 6.
Could you please explain why we cannot migrate project from RAD 6, rinning Websphere 6 server to MyEclipse 8.6 running WebSphere 7. What is causing the conflict, that will not let this migration take place. We want to know the root cause of this migration failure. Is this in the MyEclipse configuratoin or does myEclipse requires specific configuration files from RAD that it cannot get if migration is from RAD 6 to MyEclipse 8.6 running WebSphere 7.
Isn’t it simply java code (project) migration from RAD to MyEclipse?
Is there any work around to make it work.
The reason I asked these questions because I think we won’t be able to upgrade RAD 6 to RAD 7 before migrate to MyEclipse 8.6 running WebSphere 7.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
RashidOctober 25, 2010 at 5:04 pm #312255
Brian FernandesModeratorRashid,
The reason this does not work is because the enhancement wizard is simply a wizard which will migrate projects between RAD and MyEclipse. At this time it is not advanced enough to perform both migration and porting (i.e. changing the WAS version). We do have plans to introduce porting support to MyEclipse Blue, but it will only be in our MyEclipse 9.0 GA release which is a few months away.
One option for now would be to take your original projects (before you enhanced them) and replace all instances of
<classpathentry kind="con" path="com.ibm.wtp.server.java.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.core.runtimeTarget.v60/was.base.v6"/>
with
<classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jst.server.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.runtimeTarget.v70/was.base.v7"/>
and then import them into MyEclipse and perform the Enhancement step. You will be asked for a location of WAS 7.0 on the machine, please supply this value (don’t use the inbuilt libraries). This is the best workaround that I can suggest for now, I hope this helps.
October 26, 2010 at 3:05 pm #312281
riqbalMemberBrian,
Thanks. I appreciate that. I have find this only on one location in our project and its under classpath. Also we are importing RAD 6 project from CVS. So here is what I will do again.
1. Delete the project.
2. Import fresh RAD 6 project into MyEclipse from CVS.
3. As you suggested change the occurance of ” <classpathentry kind=”con” path=”com.ibm.wtp.server.java.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.core.runtimeTarget.v60/was.base.v6″/>”
with
<classpathentry kind=”con” path=”org.eclipse.jst.server.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.runtimeTarget.v70/was.base.v7″/>4. Do the project enhancement.
5. Point to WAS 7 installed in our machine. Note: WAS 7 is actual WAS 7 not WAS 7 from RAD.
Do you see any problems with this?
I will let you know how did this go.
Thanks,
RashidOctober 26, 2010 at 3:21 pm #312282
Brian FernandesModeratorRashid,
Your steps sound perfect. Using a non-RAD version of WAS 7 is not a problem.
Sorry I forgot to clarify in my prior post that that classpath string would only occur in your projects’ .classpath files.

riqbalMemberBrian,
Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate that. I am going to try that. I will keep you posted.
Thanks again.

riqbalMemberBrian,
We have configured MyEclipse with WebSphere 7. We migrated RAD 6 running Websphere 6 to MyEclipse Blue 8.6 running WebSphere 7 server. I did the following:
After configuring MyEclipse:
1. We generated new Enterprise project
2. Migrated Code manually from RAD to MyEclipse. Following the same directory structure in MyEclipse as in RAD.
3. Updated Application.xml and Web.xml
4. Deployed project on Server
5. We are able to see our project up and running.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
Rashid -
