Hi,
I currently have MyEclipse 4.0.1 installed with Eclipse 3.1 (and Java 5).
Now that Eclipse 3.1.1 is out, I naturally want to install that update.
So, when I install Eclipse 3.1.1 over top of Eclipse 3.1 (and MyEclipse 4.0.1 also installed), do I need to re-install MyEclipse too?
All I’m asking is: “Is it OK to install Eclipse 3.1.1 to update Eclipse 3.1 without having to re-install MyEclipse too?”
Thanks in advance.

hoshposhMemberNot being an expert with this product, but being rather familiar with Eclipse I would venture a vote for being okay to update Eclipse 3.1 up to 3.1.1.
My thoughts are that since this product uses an Eclipse extension mechanism to maintain its plugins in a separate location to the main Eclipse footprint, as long as you pick the correct installation root to update you should be fine.
Good luck!

Riyad KallaMemberMork L is correct, you can do an update to 3.1.1 with no ill effects.
October 6, 2005 at 4:15 pm #238870Well something made me ill! <g>
After installing 3.1.1, MyEclipse wouldn’t start. There was an error (for each time I tried to start MyEclipse) in the log that said:
!ENTRY org.eclipse.osgi 2005-10-06 15:29:06.500
!MESSAGE Bundle update@plugins/org.eclipse.osgi_3.1.0.jar [813] was not resolved.
!SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.osgi 2005-10-06 15:29:06.500
!MESSAGE Bundle System Bundle was picked instead.I then tried to re-install MyEclipse 4.0.1, but the installer just hung after I clicked install. No activity at all. Tried to reboot…all the usual…
Sigh.
Now, I’m going to remove the Eclipse directory and try again.
🙁

Riyad KallaMemberMork,
I saw your post in the new thread you made, let’s follow up there and see what is going on. We have done a multitude of in-house updates from 3.1 to 3.1.1 while trying to reproduce a different bug and they all worked as they should (but keep in mind they were all using virgin workspaces for testing, so it’s likely something hairy is going on in your workspace).October 6, 2005 at 4:48 pm #238887BTW, it’s good to see you back. I didn’ see any postings from you in the last few days. <s>
Ok, the -clean seemed to work. I was going to respond to the other message, but here is good too.
I don’t know what happened. I’m not going to try to re-install MyEclipse at this point.
However, when I try to re-install MyEclipse 4.0.1 just to see if it would install, it still hangs.
When I finally quit the MyEclipse installer, this is the log file that’s generated:
Nothing was installed.
Created with Zero G’s InstallAnywhere 5.5.1 Enterprise Build 2032
INSTALLATION WAS CANCELLED BY USER DURING PRE-INSTALLATION
Summary

============================
Have you ever seen MyEclipse hang on installation?
Thanks.

Riyad KallaMemberHave you ever seen MyEclipse hang on installation?
I have actually seen it hang one other time, back in our 2.x days, I’m don’t remember what the cause was, I just know that playing with the installer to get it to work instead of just using the manual install is really an uphill battle. If the installer keeps giving us lip we may look into an alternative option one of these days, any suggestions for cross platform installers that are relatively easy to create?

ddlMemberI am having similar problems. I often do a clean install of eclipse and I recently got 3.1.1. I am now trying to run the 4.0GA installer for Mac OS X and the installer complains that the version of eclipse is wrong and will not proceed.
Does the 4.0.2GA version install on eclipse 3.1.1? Or should I attempt doing a manual install. I have a rather slow connection to the internet so I have about another 2 hours before 4.0.2 OS X installer downloads.

Riyad KallaMemberddl,
This was a known problem with the 4.0 GA installer, it was fixed in 4.0.1, so using 4.0.2 should work fine.October 10, 2005 at 3:18 pm #239105
ddlMemberThanks – I still have an hour and 20 minutes to go ;-).
