    Wayne,

Thanks for the email regarding the White Flash of Doom ™ investigation so far.

In the “Basic Math Rules” project I sent you, I’ve found a method for a repeatable white flash: Navigate to any page that spans more than one screen, scroll halfway down, hit the Back button – bam! White flash. Do it fast. If you hesitate, the flash doesn’t occur.

My guess is that the algorithm isn’t keeping up with the user navigation speed.

Btw – “Basic Math Rules” went live on iTunes this afternoon. App number 3 thanks to Mobione!

Thanks for the problem scenario. I had seen the flash only once in previous tests and was beginning to thing I was imagining it.

My hypothesis is there are 2 overlapping animations, a vertical scroll w/ momentum and then a slide-right backward screen animation. The white flash is the result of the webkit browser animations failing because they need to be synchronized. I have opened a bug for this scenario. Due to the small window in which this problem may occur, I can’t commit that we will address it soon unless it is a quick simple fix.

Thanks for following up! Looks like it happens under iOS 6, as well.

To my surprise, someone in Saudi Arabia bought this app yesterday. First Mobione-made app in the Kingdom?

I can get a repeatable white flash in the v2.2 emulator by doing the same thing.

We have not resolved this white flash yet. Do you consider this a main scenario or edge condition?

For example is your use of scrolling and quick transition indicative of what many of your users will encounter? I know that we have some apps that we run very quickly because we have used the app so many times that we don’t wait for normal actions to complete, speedy fingers… But I doubt any user of some of our test apps could/would every zip through all the screens to see how fast they can scroll+transition.

Several of my apps are reference apps. So, people do zip through them to get to the content they need – especially after they’ve been using the app for a while.
