    Hi All,

Yes, it has finally arrived! Eclipse 3.0 is finally released!

Will Beta 2 support it out-of-the-box? And when will it come out of hiding? 🙂

    Regards,

    Robert

I don’t think we have a choice, do we? 😀

And when will it come out of hiding? 🙂

Couple weeks, I know that sounds “too damn long”, but the feature diff between Beta 1 and Beta 2 is like the feature difference between our 2.6 release and 2.7 release. Beta 1 was a hint at where we were going with ME (RAD design, sexy tools) and Beta 2 will be a feature-complete display of this, then our next few releases (GA, .1, .2, etc.) will polish and bug fix everything before we start throwing in more features. Its going crazy over here.

How can I upgrade from 2.1.3 to 3.0 the easiest way?
(is there another/smarter way than just install 3.0 and copy the needed files?)

    What about MyEclipse then?
Do I have to / Can I install it under 3.0 again?

I don’t want to do something like “trail and error” in this task. 😳

    Thanks a lot!

    Ki,
I *just* did this exact thing this morning, using Eclipse 3.0 for the first time (its NICE).

What I did was basically download Eclipse 3.0 SDK, and MyEclipse 3.8 Beta1 Manul Install (I prefer the manual install, you can use the automated if you like), and then I unzipped Eclipse and ran it, created a NEW workspace, then closed it down. Then unzipped MyEclipse and created a <eclipse dir>\links\com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link file that pointed to my MyEclipse dir, then started Eclipse up again and configured everything the way I like it (took a while, lots of options).

Then I went and grabbed my projects from my old workspace and copied into my new workspace dir, and then used File > Import to import them into Eclipse 3.0 workspace. Walla, all done.

The workspaces are not compatible, so don’t go copying them ontop of eachother. Also I think you can do a Window > Preferneces > Export in Eclipse 2.1.3 and then a Window > Preferences > Import in Eclipse 3.0 to import most of your settings, but I didn’t try it..

Also here are super-detailed instructions on doing a clean from-scratch install of Eclipse/MyEclipse: http://www.myeclipseide.com/FAQ+index-myfaq-yes-id_cat-4.html#156

This might help you with each step of the process if this is your first time doing this. After your 2nd time I’d say you are a pro.

    I did it! 🙂
Works great, thanks for your help.

But I’ve got a little problem with the dock icons. (Mac OS X)
If I start Eclipse another icon is coming up which shows java_swt as name.
    🙄

After googling around I’ve tried to play around with the Info.plist of the package, but with no useable result. (try to use the “old” startup.jar). 😳

    ➡ Any ideas?

    bye ki

Hmm… no, no ideas. But I’ll ask our OS X guy.

I’m glad to hear it worked otherwise though!

    Ki,

As you found out, since it’s only an appearance problem on one platform it has thus far not been corrected by the Eclipse team. Sorry about that. Be sure to vote for the bugs in Eclipse bugzilla though.

It suspect it was fixed in 3.0 final – I had same problem on RC releases. No longer…
