    Hi

I’m new to myeclipse and I’m trying to find out why I can’t debug a serlet running under tomcat 5 with the myeclipse 4 build using eclipse 3.1 on WinXP. I can debug jsps fine but when I set a breakpoint in a servlet the debug perspective comes up the line of code hilighted a few lines before my breakpoint. Also most of the debugger commands (step, continue) are not available so I’m permanently unable to move around in the debugger and have to exit the debug perspective to get out. Any ideas?

BTW I’ve looked at my eclipse compiler settings and they don’t appear to have anything specific to stop producing debugging code and I assume since I can debug jsps the compiler is putting debug in? The myeclipse examples I have read don’t show a servlet debugging session so I’m not sure if all I need to do is simply put a breakpoint in the code to enable servlet debugging. Any help is appreciated.

    server,
Actually double check your compiler settings and make sure you are not removing debugging information from the compiled classes. Your JSPs are compiled at runtime by your app server not my MyEclipse. So it is possible to debug JSPs and not be able to debug classes if you compiled them without debug info.

You aren’t building the class files with an Ant script are you?

Also what JDK are you using to RUn Eclipse? What JDK are you using to run Tomcat?

Have you tried shutting down Tomcat, removing the deployment, fully rebuilding your project, recreating the new deploying and starting Tomcat back up?

Thanks for your reply Riyad. This is my first time using the debugger and Tomcat together. The issue was me not selecting the correct Catalina thread to debug from the thread selection. Once I chose the correct thread to debug the debugger worked correctly – not any kind of compiler/vm issue after all – 😳

Very cool, glad you got it.
