What is the best way to start using MyEclipse for your local development work, when you start a new job and the project in source code control was not setup with MyEclipse in mind?

Is it difficult to set up a “non MyEcipse” project (that is a project that isn’t MyEclipse “aware”) in MyEclipse so you can use all MyEclipse’s features?

Are there a suggested set of steps to follow for this?

Basically, it seems that I’d have to start a brand new web project, install the Spring, Hibernate, and other parts, then painstakingly try to integrate the project from SVN into MyEcilpse. Ouch.

    Hopefully, there’s a better way?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Mork,

If the project in SVN is an eclipse project, then check out the project and add the capabilities needed, and see how it works.
If the project is in any other structure then you will have to create a new MyEclipse project, copy the files into the ME project structure manually.

Let us know if you see any issues.

Since I’ve never worked at a company that actually uses MyEclipse, the chore you’re describing is why I never end up using MyEclipse on any professional projects. I only use it for projects I can start from scratch — personal stuff.

There should be some type of import wizard to match up typical SVN project directories and set up the MyEclipse project.

    🙁

    Appreciate your reply.

    Mork,

Can you please elaborate on what exactly is your requirement ?
What type of project is in the SVN ? Is it another IDE project, an Eclipse project, a Maven project ?

There are many IDEs that might have many ways of structuring projects, so such an enhancement would have to prioritize based on what most developers would like to see. I suggest you add a topic to the feature requests forum to gauge interest.
