We currently have 10 developers using MyEclipse on a Linux development server. To save disk space we would like to “share” the Installation.

We have come across others doing this with Eclipse. What is the proper setup of directories for this to work on MyEclipse? i.e. which directories can be shared and which ones must be unique to each developer?

We have run into issues where the license information appears to be overwritten on occassion. Also the installation profile for managing configuration does not work anymore either. It will not let us apply changes to the profile. It says it is “Not Installed”.

    mkleweno,

To share MyEclipse profile across development team, I would recommend you use the collaborative feature available in MyEclipse. Open MyEclipse IDE, from menu options click on Help > MyEclipse Configuration Center. Choose Collaboration tab. Click [Start Sharing Now]. This will open Invite Collaborators window. Add the email – ids of the developers you would like this profile to be shared with and follow the wizard. An email invite will be sent to the invited collaborators. Next each team member invited need to click on the link provided and follow the wizard to install the shared profile.

    Hope this helps.

We are behind a firewall and have limited to no internet connection so the Shared Configuration is not really an option.

    mkleweno,

I have escalated your issue to dev team members. They would get back to you on this.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    mkleweno,

I’m afraid multiple users using the actual same install is not a supported MyEclipse usage model. Even if I were to suggest a few workarounds by which you would be able to achieve this, the installation would be problematic with issues faced during applying updates, installing new software and license management; as you have already seen in your initial attempts.

You can use our archived update site instead of the Pulse based installers to achieve a more traditional Eclipse install (add the archived update site to a Eclipse Classic 3.7.0 install) and possibly use the same techniques that others are using with Eclipse.
