I stumbled onto a very nice plugin Log4E that enables you to easily integrate logging into your classes.
I especially like the ‘Replace System.out’s for this class’ option.
I think it is a plugin that should be shipped by default with the next version.

Mike, Log4E’s license looks like it might be a problem (needing a distribution license from the author).
