I am evaluating MyEcplise for a use on a JSF development task. I have Eclipse 3.01 installed, and I downloaded and installed MyEclipse 3.8.2 for Mac yesterday.

When I try to launch Eclipse now, I get the error:

“An error has occurred and cannot be logged:
    null”

I never had this error before installing MyEclipse. I’m running Mac OS X version 10.3.6 on a powerbook G4.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,
What is the Build ID of Eclipse you are using? Also is there anything in your log file? (metadata dir\.metadata\.log), and can you get Eclipse running to give me a dump of Help > About > Configuration Details?

    Riyad,

A coworker helped me out, I can at least launch Eclipse now.

During the MyEclipse install, it complained that it couldn’t write to the directory I installed Eclipse in (/Applications/eclipse). I looked at the permissions, and sure enough, that directory was not writable to anybody, so I gave myself write perms on that directory.

Apparently Eclipse does not like this, and refuses to start unless its install directory is read-only. When I changed the directory perms back to read only, it started fine. Seems strange to me, but I guess they have their reasons.

Well now I can start test-driving MyEclipse.

    Thanks,
    Scott
