Around July / August 2004 I tried MyEclipseIDE. I then purchased a one year subscription which I received on 09/01/2004. When I enter the subscription key into the MyEclipseIDE Panel everything is fine. Except a day or two later, The Trial Expired dialog comes up.

This occured before and after upgrading to 3.8.2 GA.

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,
If you navigate to the Window > Prefs > MyEclipse > Subscription panel do you see your subscription info? What does the expiration date say? Please note that your subscription information is saved PER-workspace, so if you use multiple workspaces, this si most likely what is going on. You need to re-add it to each workspace.

    Greg,
When you get that trial info to popup again, check that screen again and see if the values have gotten mixed up somehow, also go check your log at the same time and see if it might be a preference issue: (workspace dir)\.metadata\.log

Adding Subscription per Workspace.? What is the point of this? I Continually work on multiple Workspaces.. I don’t mean to sound arguementative., but why stop at entering the Subscription for each workspace.. Why not just have me enter it for each new project.. Or maybe everytime I open a file, (.java, .xml..) that I haven’t opened in a week or so… This has got to be the most ridiculous subscription requirement I have ever seen. Do you contemplate that sooner or later I will reach a ceiling of different workspace’s and therefore should only have to enter the subscription 4 or 5 times?

I really would like to know the reasoning for this requirement.. perhaps I may be able to better understand why it is this way.

    Thank You,
    Greg

    Greg,
The subscription information, along with the remainder of the MyEclipse configuration information is part of the Eclipse preference system, a side effect of which is making the info specific to the workspace you are working with. This allows us to avoid recreating any storage/retrieval mechanisms and simply store the information in a well known, portable and accessible area: the workspace.

There is an open enhancement for us to create a more global location for the subscription information so people working with multiple workspaces will not need to enter the information multiple times. I will add your comments to that enhancement and see if we can’t try and push that change through sooner.
