Since MyEclipse and WTP 1.0 currently can’t coexist in Eclipse I’m curious about the best way to have an environment where I can alternate between the two configurations.
I suppose one way is to have two completely independent Ecipse installation with their own set of plugins.
Is there any easy way that there can be a common install with a common plugins directory, but with a different set of plugins enabled?
Your assessment is correctly for now you need separate installs. This will ALL get better in MyEclipse 5.0 when we resettle ontop of WTP 1.5, we will get everything back in line.
So by your answer I presume the second option isn’t viable. I had hoped maybe there was a way of having two configuratoin files and I just switch config files between launches. Oh well.

you can try install eclipse in another directory and start this installation with separate workspace.This work good
Other solution is same eclipse and different workspace, but you will have warning on starting (reset perspective, view doesn’t exists or like) and projects for ME will have errors in wtp and reverse
I advice that you install wtp and requirements in separate extension point, too
