I was attemtping to update MyEclipse today, and now I am not able to launch it. I get the error message:

“An error has occurred. See the log file C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Workspaces\MyEclipse 8.5\.metadata\.log”

I have pasted the content of this file below. What do I need to do to resolve this issue?

    Thanks!

    JeremyT923, mikelo6,
Can you try using pulse for a quick fix? The following are the steps
    1. Download pulse explorer from http://www.poweredbypulse.com.
    2. Open pulse explorer and login anonymously.
    3. From the top left corner, select “Eclipse Galileo”. Your profile should be listed under “MyProfile”
    4. Select your profile, right click on it and from the context menu select “Re-install and Run”
Let me know if that works for you.

Before I got your response, I was doing some research and found something odd. In the config.ini file, the eclipse.product setting was referring to MyEclipse 8.5 not 8.0 which is what I had installed. I changed it to refer to MyEclipse 8.0, and it started fine. I still could not upgrade it, so what I ended up doing was completely uninstalling MyEclipse and installing 8.5 from scratch.

    The line I changed was in C:\Program Files\Genuitec\MyEclipse 8.x Latest\configuration\config.ini

    Old Line:

    eclipse.product=com.genuitec.myeclipse.product85.ide

    New Line:

    eclipse.product=com.genuitec.myeclipse.product8.ide

Hi, I just got the same error after doing an update. I am on Ubuntu 64 bit running MyEclipse 8.0. Here is the error:

shalini, I tried the pulse. It errored out when it tried to run on some installations of software (I believe it was google gwt and bazaar, both of which would not install). I now get this message:

The Myeclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library.

Also it changed my profile from MyEclipse 8.0 to MyEclipse 8.5
    HELP

I just noticed that in the folder Genuitec/MyEclipse 8.x Latest/configuration there is no ini file.
Note, for future people looking at this, the under MyEclipse 8.x Latest/configuration there was no config.ini and under the MyEclipse 8.x Latest there was no eclipse.ini file. Ann
I just found a log file:

    Ann,

The Myeclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library.

This error is cause due to missing eclipse.ini file.
I would recommend you to do a fresh install. The following are the steps:
    1. Run the MyEclipse uninstaller.
    2. Make sure the MyEclipse Install Directory has been completely removed
2.1. Pulse Install Directory, on XP it’s under C:\Program Files in \Pulse or \Genuitec, and on Vista it’s under <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local and then under \Pulse or \Genuitec again
    3. Then make sure the pulse2.locator file under <USER.HOME> is erased as well
After this, please reinstall MyEclipse using the All in one installer.
Also, refer to the following links for further reference –

Shalini, I had to be up and running yesterday so I did some googling yesterday and came to that same conclusion. The uninstall for myeclipse would not work, so manually removed the Genuitec folder (home/yourname/) I did uninstall pulse. Could not find a pulse2.locator file, but maybe that got removed when I uninstalled pulse. Then downloaded and installed myEclipse 8.5 reinstalled the subversion plugin and did some ant stuff and I am back and running. Had one issue with synchronizing with subversion, but after googling did a restart and I was ok..
Question, does this mean the update date process does not work on Ubuntu 64 bit? Needless to say I will probably NOT be trying that again soon.
P.S., I did create an ini file from a back up but that did not do anything. Also most of the posts I could find were either windows or mac, could not find much about ubuntu installations (which may be a really good thing 🙂 )

    Ann,
Its good to know that you are all set and we are sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Updates are possible on Ubuntu. When installing any plugins please verify the compatibility with the base eclipse(Eclipse 3.5.2 in case of MyEclipse 8.5)
Let us know if you have any issues.
