Getting the following error trying to Start my JSP Web project
    with Websphere 5.

    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/ibm/ws/bootstrap/WSLauncher

Is this known problem of any kind?

    MyClipse for 3.0M7 (3.7.1)
    Windows 2000 Pro
    Oxygen plugin installed
    Jdk 1.4.2_03
    Websphere 5.1 trial

You have to launch WebSphere 5 with one of IBM’s JDKs. IBM adds a LOT of stuff that just isn’t in the Sun versions.

I tried changing my JDK assignment to
    …… <websphere install>/jdk/java
    and got the same error

I looked around in JAR files looking for the missing class.
    …… com/ibm/ws/bootstrap/WSLauncher
and the only place I found it was in
    …… <websphere install>/migration/lib/bootstrap.jar

It does not appear in any of the JARs in the JDK or JRE in the Websphere kit.

Whatever the jars are in that directory I would think they are part of the WebSphere “known” tools and should be found by WebSphere on their own. There are 49 JARs in that directory.

    Roger,

I think your problem might be that your Websphere Home Directory setting is not correctly initialized on the preference page for Websphere 5.

I had the same problem but was able to correct it when I properly adjusted the value in my Websphere Home Directory. Based on your post above, I would say that you should try setting the value to <<i><b>websphere install</b></i>>/migration.

    Hope this helps.

From this, it looks like the problem may be that WebSphere has changed their launch model somewhat with version 5.1. I’ve opened a problem report to investigate it so we can fix it in the next release, if needed.
