I’m unable to start Sun App Server 8. When I attempt to start the server I get the following error message: ‘A configuration error occurred during startup. Please verify the preference field with the prompt: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\js2dk1/4/2_05 Exception in thread “main”‘

The preference field is set to point to my JDK directory and not my JRE directory. I’ve tried both the JDK directory and the JRE directory, neither work. I get the same error.

I have absolutely no clue to what is wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That was the problem. When I install the jdk at the root level of the drive the app server starts.

    THANKS!
