    Dear MyEclipse Support,

I am experiencing the following problem. I can start up JBoss 3.2.1 and successfully deploy my EAR to the server and use it. However when selecting to undeploy the EAR I get the following error.

Undeployment failure on JBoss 3- stop server and manually remove c:\java\jboss-tomcat\server\default\deploy\ModularEppix.ear

What it does is remove the whole ear except jars contained in the WAR WEB-INF/lib directory.

If I shutdown JBoss and try again it successfully remove the remaining files.

    Windows 2000
    JBoss 3.2.1
    Eclipse 2.1.1
    MyEclipse 2.6.4

    Kind Regards
    Fred

The behavior you experience is JBoss (or more likely Tomcat/Jetty) locking these libraries when the application is loaded. MyEclipse relies on the server to allow another process to access its resources. As you have discovered by stopping the server you can complete the undeployment in most cases.

For us the biggest inconvenience is when you make a structural change to a class and wish to reploy your application. “Reploy” is a composite operation of “Undeploy” followed by “Deploy”. This is a heavy operation who’s success depends upon the appserver allowing another process to access its deployed resources. Our near-term plan is to add a “Reload” action that will instruct the appserver to reload the application – a much lighter weight action. A longer term plan is to work more closely with the appserver’s management APIs.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for your prompt reply 🙂 As an interim solution I only make use of the packaged archive option. Then I am able to undeploy successfully each time. Seems like the problem only exist for an exploded archive.

    Fred

Thanks for the feedback. What version of JBoss are you using? Please include the Tomcat/Jetty info.
