CDEMemberHowdy.
I’m using the latest 4.1 milestone (M2) in hopes a long-time issue has been fixed, but it hasn’t. All I use MyEclipse for is very rudimentary HTML and JSP work. In fact, we have a bunch of JSP files, but most all of the content is simple HTML. What really bugs me and keeps me looking for a different WYSIWYG HTML editor in Eclipse is the following message:
“Updating source model due to structural change”
I get this message in a progress dialog quite often for seemingly light operations. For instance… if I simply change the indent of a paragraph, I now have to wait 5-10 seconds for this dialog. If I change the size of a font… I have to wait. If I create a table… I have to wait.
No other HTML editor that I have used has done this. Or, at least, they have done it in the background so it wasn’t a bother.
Can this be fixed? Our entire team has licenses for MyEclipse for simple HTML work like this, but we have stopped using it because of this very problem.
Regards,
Chad Barnes

Kapil KapreMemberChad,
What command line arguments are using? We observed some performance related issues related to the Web Designer being ironed out when users used-vmargs -Xms128M -Xmx512M -XX:PermSize=64M -XX:MaxPermSize=128Mas their commandline parameters. Can you try these and tell us if they work for you?
Thanks,

GregMemberChad,
If there is one particular document structure and one editing use case that takes particularlly long to “update”, could you please send us a copy of html file(s). If we can replicate the problem we will have a much better chance of fixing any problems. Thanks for taking time to bring this to our attention.

CDEMemberWell, I’ll send you a JSP file we have here. Our portal is a bit “funny” and all of our files are JSP, even though most the content is HTML.
I’m sending a knownissues.jsp file.

Riyad KallaMemberChad,
We received your file and were able to quickly reproduce the problems, thank you for the help.March 11, 2006 at 7:32 pm #248369
Tyler LeCouffeMemberI’m having the same problem… and the above command line was a default in my install. It still seem to thrash
around when I’m building a JSP in a design view. Any suggestgions?Tyler

Riyad KallaMemberTyler,
If your problem is the same as Chad’s there isn’t a workaround at this time, we just need to make the parser smarter about what it resyncs when changes are made. We appologize for the inconvenience.March 12, 2006 at 7:01 pm #248392
Tyler LeCouffeMemberThanks for the quick response! Is there a way to turn off the synch and build manually? I kinda doubt it, but I thought I’d throw it out there…

GregMemberTyler,
If you want to use the JSP Design view, then there is no way to turn the auto-updating. We know that the JSP WYSIWYG designer has alot of room for improvement and work in continuing in that area.
