    using eclipse 3.0.1, ME + 3.8.1 + 3 quick fixes on win 2000 (sp4)

    Firstly clicking on Help | Software Updates | Find & Install | Search for updates of currently installed software – finds nothing?

    Secondly should I be upgrading anyway? – read the post regarding GEF problems upgrading which I’m NOT using – so do I or don’t I? if so how best to it if no updates found automatically?

    cheers

    Harry,

    Please see this announcement link at the top of the forum for information on the update site.

    And yes, you should be upgrading. The GEF issue was really only a problem with 3.8.0. Upgrading to 3.8.2 is highly recommended due to the large number of fixes and small enhancements.

    I have a couple of problems with this update.

    First of all, the instructions talk about adding an update site via the following menu path:

    Help > Software Updates… > “Search for new updates to install” > “New Remote Site…”

    However, on the Eclipse that I’m using (version 3.0.0), the Help > Software Updates menu item has a submenu of “Find and install”, which brings up the “Install/Update” dialog and that has no option for adding a new remote site.

    The second problem I have is that my employer uses a proxy URL to configure proxy settings (and it needs a userid/password). This works fine in browsers but appears to be useless in Eclipse preferences, which needs a specific proxy address. Is there a way to install this update from a download, which can be done separately?

    Tony
