    Hi,

Iam looking at myeclipse as an alternate development platform for my company. Sofar Iam not too happy about it.

My goal for evaluating this product is to create 1 CMP bean and 1 BMP bean and deploy them on a oc4j server.

    my problem:

    1. I cannot find ANY documentation on howto create an ejb-jar.xml
    2. I cannot find ANY documentation on howto work with datasources in myeclipse
    3. There are no examples to be found with cmp beans or bmp beans for that matter.

Can anybody give me a sample project with 1 bean working against a database (mysql is good enough). And a single jsp that gets all data from that bean. All crated with myeclipse and the xdoclet engine.

As far as I can see now the xdoclet technique and myeclipse can be very usefull in my company, but without a working example to test the theory I cannot do anything with it.

    Marc,

You may have already seen these, but a basic EJB tutorial that covers XDoclet is available here:
    http://myeclipseide.com/enterpriseworkbench/help/topic/com.genuitec.myeclipse.doc/html/tasks/EJB/creatingEJB.htm

Also, there’s a good MDB tutorial (not exactly what you want, but probably helpful) available on the Tutorials page here:

    Marc,

I have been working my way thru Monson-Haefel’s Enterprise JavaBeans 3rd Ed converting the examples from the JBoss pdf workbook on O’Reilly’s web site to use XDoclet in MyEclipse. I have been using Eclipse 3.0M8, MyEclipse 3.7.2, JBoss 3.2.3 and MySQL 4.0.17 This is strictly EJB – no JSP. I could send you a zip of a project that includes session, entity, and message-driven beans, and examples of all types of entity relationships, some of which I found to be a little tricky. It covers most of the examples in Chapters 6,7,12, and 13. The converted examples work, but I’m still new at this and my setup may not be exemplary. If this sounds like it could be useful to you, let me know how to send you the zip file.

    Good luck,
    Walter

    Walter,

If you wouldn’t mind contributing your examples, we’d be pleased to host them on the site so that everyone could download them as a reference. Naturally, we’d attribute the contribution to you, as you see we do with some of the Flash tours on the Tutorials and Demos page. Sound like a winner?

    Scott,

I just did the conversion as a learning exercise, so this is only a rough example project, not a polished tutorial like the Flash demos on your site. I don’t want to invest the time to create a tutorial or polish it up. Having said that, I still think the project could be useful, particularly to an XDoclet beginner. Before doing a general posting, though, I would prefer it if someone more experienced with MyEclipse than myself take a look at the project to see if I am using MyEclipse in a “recommended” way. I could easily be missing something obvious to an experienced eye.

    Walter,

Sure, we understand that there are caveats. If you’d send the project to support@genuitec.com and reference this thread we’ll be glad to take a look at it and make any adjustments if needed. Since they’re examples from a widely read book, I’m sure they’ll be useful to many of our users. We get queries for example projects all the time and unfortunately spend all our time writing product, not examples. 🙂

A tutorial on precisely this matter, building EJB’s with MyEclipse – if based on Monson-Haefels book is a plus – is exactly what is missing to the MyEclipse documentation, especially after all those great flash demos !

Yes, Walter sent the project in, but I haven’t had time to look at it since we’re trying to get the 2.8 beta out the door. We plan on adding some documentation and getting it on the website ASAP, but if you’d like a copy of it before that, please send an email to support with the subject line ‘Walter Example’ and I’ll see that it’s forwarded out to you.
