ldogMemberI just noticed that Webservics are on the roadmap for Q3.
Since Q4 just started, I was wondering how the Web Services tools are coming along. Also, will this be based on Sun’s WSDP or Apache’s Axis ?
I just pulled down the demo and must say I’m very impressed so far.
If the tool speeds the process of creating and testing SOAP based webservices I’ll be buying several licenses. Thanks,
Luis

support-michaelKeymasterI believe development is shuffling feature priorites somewhat to improve web-tools, e.g., better Struts, WYSIWYG support… The feature research team has been looking at both of the web-service options that you mention as well as a couple of other ideas. I can’t say any more at this time.

Davi RocksMemberI hope web services aren’t losing priority! It will be an important focus for the coming year and I hoped to have integrated support. I will be looking at the new lomboz to see how well and how much support they actually provide for WS.

Riyad KallaMemberRocks,
Don’t worry we get to decide how important these features are; and I think you already pointed out just how important web services will be. I imagine the ME team is working pretty hard on it.April 13, 2004 at 5:06 am #205901
mdebruijnMemberOn the RoadMap document is see a lot of options but the WebServices ares missing.
When will the WebServices generation be available within MyEclipse? If XDoclet is used it shouldn’t be much of a problem.April 13, 2004 at 10:21 am #205910
support-michaelKeymasterAs you can tell from this thread we reprioritized web-services support a while back. There is still a lot of discussion regarding such capability but the immediate focus has been dramatically improving the web development capabilities w/ WYSWYG and other emerging features. I know the web-services discussion comes up frequently here in mgmt mtgs as an upcoming focus release. But I don’t know which release. The good news is the rapid MyEclipse adoption rate has enabled us to expand the development group so I hope its sooner than later.

sherm1914MemberJ2EE in general is slightly passé technology. While J2EE and many of the features are fundamental to enterprise application development, most newly initiated projects are using some form of WebServices on top of a J2EE infrastructure. My general feeling is that without proper WebServices support, many of us will have to integrate a 3rd party plug-in into the MyEclipse environment that may corrupt the environment. I am an extremely impressed and satisfied user of the MyEclipse platform; however, current technology needs for some of my customers requires me to go beyond the general J2EE and into the SOA world of WebServices. I would like to see a strategy that would integrate Axis, JAX-RPC and JAXM with Xdoclet and a few “getting started” templates.

Ronald van KuijkMembersherm,
Ever tried one of the axis plugins? The run stable for me in combination with MyExclipse, with xdoclet support etc…

sherm1914MemberI’ve tried the improve plugin, but this plugin appears to be dead as it has not released any new updates since 2002. Also, the improve plugin does not seem to work un 3.0M8. Is there another plugin out there that may be a of better quality for using with MyEclipse?

czednickMemberI would love nothing more than to have MyEclipse handle my (JBoss) Web-Services descriptors and packaging too! Please do not forget that this is an important feature request.
P.S. If this feature is not yet available why is there an icon and a label with WebServices on the feature page? (http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-15.html) As it’s painfull to find out that WebServices do not yet exsits in MyEclipse.

Its mean as a sort of roadmap… that is why its grayed out (the feature isn’t implemented yet).

Believe me, we haven’t forgotten about the Web Services support. I know that we are evaluating a lot of possibilities and one of the things we wanted to look at before deciding was what IBM was donating to the webtools project. The screenshots of the web services modelling seemed every promising. The less of the wheel we reinvent the faster we can bring sweet functionality and tools to your desktops.

John D’AusilioMember+1 on having MyEclipse handle my (JBoss) Web-Services descriptors and packaging ..
Wouldn’t that support be pretty straightforward to add? Support for the jboss.net tags and small additions to web deployment ..

John MyersMemberI agree that webservices support is crucial to the success of any j2ee development tool. Is this a feature being worked on for the 3.8 release?
June 15, 2004 at 10:50 am #208557
Riyad KallaMemberThis will not be addressed in 3.8 but we are looking at it for 3.9.
