jfrantziusMemberWhen I open a certain 1MB XML file in the MyEclipse XML Editor, it successfully opens it using the “Design” tab. But when I switch to the “Source” tab, Eclipse freezes completely.
This is with Eclipse 3.0.1 and MyEclipse 3.8.2+QF20041020.
I made two Thread dumps, here is the first I made:

Scott AndersonParticipantSounds like either SWT is running out of resource handles or Eclipse is short on memory. Can you try rebooting your machine (to have the OS release all the resource handles) and then try starting Eclipse with the following commanline options: -vm -Xms128M -Xmx256M
If that doesn’t work, can you please post all the information we request in the Posting Guidelines thread at the top of this forum? That will give us some context so that we can determine if this is an installation issue, a configuration problem, or a bug. Thanks.

I tried it, both with JDK1.5 (which I prefer) and JDK 1.4.2_05, but it didn’t help. Just for fun, I set to -Xmx500M, but that didn’t help either.

yes. But please don’t blame them.– How many plugins in the <eclipse>/plugins directory are like org.eclipse.pde.*

Scott AndersonParticipantThanks for the information
– Are any other external plugins installed?
yes. But please don’t blame them. It’s not a matter of blame, it’s a matter of looking for incompatiblities with different plugins versions.
What we need to do is test this on a clean MyEclipse installation. You can either do that yourself or email the test file to support@genuitec.com and we can look at it in the next couple of days. If you choose the later option, please reference this thread so we have the context for the file.

OK, I took a vanilla Eclipse 3.0.1 installation, with only com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link in the <eclipse>\links directory and started with “-clean” (using JDK1.4.2_05). The problem still occurs.
Unfortunately, it might not be possible to send you the XML file, because it is our client’s property. I’ll investigate whether it will be possible…
BTW, in the task manager I can see that the process seems to be constantly consuming memory in chunks of 8KB while the CPU usage is up.

Scott AndersonParticipantInteresting. Thanks for looking into it. It sounds like likely a parsing issue of some sort.
On sending us a test file, perhaps you can do global replaces on the client-sensitive information so that names, prices, locations, whatever are just gibberish. As long as the file is well-formed and exhibits the same issue it would provide a valid testcase for us. I’ve done this in the past with our clients and they typically don’t care as long as none of the information is theirs anymore.

OK I did that and sent it to you (support@genuitec.com)

Scott AndersonParticipantWe got it and validated that this particular file does cause the problems you’ve encountered. We’ve entered a bug report for it using the file you sent as an example. Unfortunately, the only known workaround at this time is to open this file with the Text editor.

jfrantziusMemberHi Scott,
I take it that your bug tracker system is not publicly accessible?December 1, 2004 at 6:47 am #220316
Riyad KallaMemberNot currently, we use it to track more than just MyEclipse issues.

jfrantziusMemberThe problem still exists with MyEclipse 3.8.3. Using Java 1.5, the whole VM eventually crashes.

support-michaelKeymasterPlease note that MyEclipse 3.8.3 is for Eclipse 3.0.x/JDK1.4.x. MyEclipse for Eclipse 3.1Mx will be supported in the near future.
