I’m sorry I made a mistake, the last sequence in the admin console that I wrote was to disable performance monitoring service whitch is not your case.

You should check instead under :
    Server->Websphere Application server->yourserver->Process definition->JVM

debug arguments should be something like:
    -agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=7778

and in my case generic arguments field is empty

The point is I think you were starting the in profiling mode and not in debug which is not what you wanted I assume.

    Hi,

I’m facing exactly the same issue people talked abou in this thread, so I tried all the tips and suggestions posted hereby, with no luck. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this, and help me find out what I’m missing or doing wrong. Thanks. Enrique

    Enrique,

I’m not sure why you posted the same question twice, using two different user IDs. Can you delete the post for the user ID that you no longer want to use, just to tidy this up a bit? Thanks.

Just to be clear, could you please describe the problem you are having in detail. A few different users have posted on this thread and there seemed to be some differences in the problem. Also, please describe what tips you’ve used to try to solve the problem and whether your WebSphere profile is configured as a system service.

Thanks for your configuration information, though this is really more than required, for the most part, and doesn’t include the MyEclipse build ID. Instead, please attach the information displayed through going to MyEclipse->Installation Summary->Installation Details.

    Hi Tony,

I will continue using the other account. How can I delete the post made through this account?

    Hi Tony,

    I am running , Win 7 Enterprise, 64-bit.
    WAS7, 64-bit
Currently: MyEclipse Bling Edition 10-1, 32-bit
Also tried: MyEclipse Blue Edition 10, 64-bit

    Issue:
WAS7 cannot start in debug mode:
    Trace from native_stderr.log
JVMJ9TI001E Agent library jdwp could not be opened (The specified module could not be found. )
    JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9jvmti24(-3): JVMJ9VM009E J9VMDllMain failed
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

    Tried:
    0. Making sure MyEclipse, WAS etc run with Admin permissions and that WAS is not a Windows Service.
    1. Setting up environmkent variables as in: https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21319688
    2. Installed both 32 and 64 bit versions of MyEclipse. WAS7 starts properly in both but cannot debug in either.
    3. Created new profiles, as mentioned in this post.
    4. Added JVM flags to enable debugging (WAS Admin Console, server> Java and Process Mgmt> JVM> Debug Mode
    5. Installed Agent Controller

I may be missing a couple other things I tried, but basically, that’s it. Every time I start the server from MyEclipse, it comes up with the error message shown above.

    Enrique,

Sorry, I thought it was possible for users to delete their own posts but it appears not. i’ve deleted your duplicate post under the other user name.

I’ve been unable to track down the problem with starting WAS 7 in debug mode. It seems to be something to do with WAS itself, though I don’t know what. It might be possible to verify this by ensuring that the debugging service in WebSphere is started when WebSphere starts. This can be done by opening the Admin Console and going to your server via: Servers->Server Types->WebSphere Application Servers-><your server>->Debugging Service, then checking the “Enable service at server startup” box. Apply the change and be sure to save it to the Master Configuration (there will be a link at the top of the admin console page). Then start the server normally and check if the same error about the jdwp library occurs. Hopefully, if it does bring the same error, it won’t stop the server from starting and you can uncheck the option of starting the debugging service at startup.

However, in order to get you running, I found this blog entry about debugging WebSphere with eclipse. It suggests different JVM settings for the debugging service and you might want to try that to be able to start WAS7 in debug mode. The JVM arguments are:

    -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=7778

Note the change of debugging port from what is in the blog entry.

Please let us know if this works (I’ve tried it myself and it seems to work fine).

    Hi Tony,

We have found this blog article and tried that solution before – no luck.
We are able to start WAS7 in debug mode from the command line, so it seems as if it’s the MyEclipse plug-in that is not able to start WAS properly.
    Any thoughts/ideas you could share?

    Thanks
    Enrique

    Enrique,

The only thought that comes to mind without looking at this some more, is to try MyEclipse Blue Edition 2013, to see if mods since the release that you’re using have had an effect. Actually, if any MyEclipse updates are shown in the Configuration Center, you could try applying those first. If that doesn’t help then try installing 2013 Blue just to see if that helps. Bling 2013 is not yet available but you said you’d also tried MyEclipse Blue 10, previously, so the updated version might help.

This is a strange one as we have not been able to replicate it here, which would tend to point at something in your set-up. Could you post the information from MyEclipse->Installation Summary->Installation Details, just so we have all the relevant info. This would be after applying any updates or installing 2013, of course.

I have been experiencing the same problem since upgrading to windows7.
I have also tried running was7 in debug mode under myeclipse2013 and get the same issue. In console it states:

ADMU0116I: Tool information is being logged in file
    C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer7\profiles\AppSrv01\logs\server1\startServer.log
ADMU0128I: Starting tool with the AppSrv01 profile
ADMU3100I: Reading configuration for server: server1
ADMU3200I: Server launched. Waiting for initialization status.
ADMU3011E: Server launched but failed initialization. startServer.log,
SystemOut.log(or job log in zOS) and other log files under
    C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer7\profiles\AppSrv01\logs\server1 should
    contain failure information.

This has been a productivity downer, since not able to debug a web application from the myeclipse debuger.

As people before me have done, I’ve tried all the solution sugested without any success.

    havelino,

Sorry for the delay; we’ve been trying to replicate the problem here. Fortunately, we’ve managed to do so and I have raised a bug, which we are investigating as a priority.

There is a messy workaround, which will at least allow you to debug:

    To set up,

    1. Start WAS 7 in run mode, or start it from outside of MyEclipse Blue.
    2. Now open the admin console and go to Servers->Server Types->WebSphere application servers.
    3. Now click on your server, for example “server1”.
    4. Click on the “Debugging Service” link under “Additional Properties” and ensure that the “Enable service at server startup” checkbox is checked. Note the debug port for later.
    5. Click the Apply button and ensure this is saved in your configuration (click the Save link on the next page).
    6. Stop the server.
    7. Inside MyEclipse Blue, Go to Run->Debug Configurations, double click “Remote Java Application” then set your project, host (“localhost”) and debug port (you can get this from the admin console, as mentioned previously). Click Apply and Close.

    For each debugging session,

    1. Start WAS7 outside of MyEclipse Blue (for example, from your start menu or from the WAS 7 First Steps page). If you start WAS7 from inside MyEclipse Blue, you will need to repeat the previous set up steps before the next debugging session.
    2. In MyEclipse Blue, go to Run->Debug Configurations and select the configuration you set up previously. Now click the Debug button. Note that, after running it once, this configuration will be available from the Run->Debug History menu item.
    3. Stop WAS7 outside of MyEclipse Blue, when you are finished debugging.

You can set breakpoints as normal and can deploy to WAS, as usual. If you start WAS from MyEclipse Blue, you will need to run through the set up steps again before debugging.

We apologise for this inconvenience and will be trying to get a fix for this as soon as possible.

Are there any updates on a bugfix for this issue? I am encountering the same issue with debug mode on build 10.6-Blue-20120727 with WAS 7 fixpack 29 on Windows 7 x64.

    ccombar,

I’m sorry but we haven’t been able to get a fix out for this, so far. It’s still being investigated and the priority has been bumped. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can report some better news.

After applying WAS 7 fix pack 29, this problem could not be reproduced.

Note that you may need to apply both fixpacks, for the AppServer and the Java SDK. As per the page linked to above, you should apply the fix packs separately. I applied the AppServer fix pack first, relaunched the updater and then applied the Java SDK fix pack. After this the server can be started in debug mode from MyEclipse Blue.

Please let us know if this works for you.
