My whole team just upgraded from MyEclipse 10 to MyEclipse 2013 today because we also just recently migrated from SVN to Git and the EGit plugin for MyEclipse 10 is horrid and our colleague who is using 2013 at home said the EGit plugin was much better and we should try upgrading.

Well – we did so, with some pains but nothing too terrible. We did all, however, install both the EGit and Groovy plugins from the “Help > Install from Catalog” using the Genuitec catalog to search and install from. We then installed the Google Web Toolkit plugin for 3.8/4.2 from the Eclipse Workplace catalog since it was not available from the Genuitec catalog.

I then imported our project from Git, upgraded the settings and project files for 2013 and started developing again. All of us on our team are noticing severe performance issues though when we go to right-click on a project to get the context menu to appear. It can take up to 2 minutes for the menu to appear sometimes with the (Not Responding) label appearing in the banner bar of MyEclipse.

We all have the same myeclipse.ini file:

    #utf8 (do not remove)
    -startup
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.0.v20120522-1813.jar
    --launcher.library
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.i18n.win32.win32.x86_64_3.2.0.v201103301700
    -vm
    binary/com.sun.java.jdk.win32.x86_64_1.6.0.u43/bin/javaw.exe
    -install
    C:\Users\rbrueckmann\AppData\Local\MyEclipse Professional
    -vmargs
    -Xmx2048m
    -Xms2048m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=128m
    -Dosgi.nls.warnings=ignore

Any ideas what the cause for this could be? All other functions are fine. Starting up is quick, development is quick…but right-click on the project to get the Team or the Properties menus and you’re stuck sitting there waiting for an random period of time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Brueckmann,

Sorry that you are running into this issue. We couldn’t replicate the issue at our end.

Can you please answer some queries to help us investigate further :
    1) Please share your MyEclipse installation details from MyEclipse (menu) > Installation summary > Installation details .

    2) Are you seeing the same issue with non-GIT projects in the workspace? You can try creating a sample web project and check if you see the issue with that sample project.

    3) Are you seeing this issue throughout a session or only once in a session ?

    4) Clear the contents of the .log file located at <workspace dir>/.metadata/.log file, try replicating the issue again and see if any errors are logged in the log file. If any errors are logged, please attach the log file here to help us investigate further.

    2) Are you seeing the same issue with non-GIT projects in the workspace? You can try creating a sample web project and check if you see the issue with that sample project.

Oddly enough – it’s as soon as I create a non-Git project in my workspace does this issue go away across the board. Once I created this non-Git project, I can now right-click on any project without the IDE hanging. Even stranger, I deleted the non-Git project and everything is working fine now. So I don’t appear to have this issue anymore. I’m going to ask my colleague to try doing the same thing and see if it clears up their issue as well…will post back if that’s the case.

    3) Are you seeing this issue throughout a session or only once in a session ?

Before I created the non-Git project which seems to have magically fixed this issue, yes, it happened throughout the entire time we’re using MyEclipse – even if we left MyEclipse open over night. Right-click on any of the projects in the workspace and it takes a few seconds to a few minutes before the right-click context menu appears, causing MyEclipse to display the (Not Responding) in the title bar of the application in the interim. Every time without fail.

    4) Clear the contents of the .log file located at <workspace dir>/.metadata/.log file, try replicating the issue again and see if any errors are logged in the log file. If any errors are logged, please attach the log file here to help us investigate further.

See attached log.txt file. Some scary exceptions in there…not sure if it’s very helpful or not. This log file is from start-up, right-clicking on a project, experiencing the ‘Not Responding’, then importing a non-Git project which seems to then have fixed this specific performance issue, at least for me.

Just an update on this. My colleagues and I are able to right-click without having the IDE hang after a fresh restart of MyEclipse. It’s as soon as we start running our GWT applications by right-clicking on the project, going to Run As > Web Application (with the blue Google ‘g’ icon) which fires up our application in the GWT Jetty Dev mode server.

Now, our application is very large but we never had this issue in 2+years usage of MyEclipse 10…so I’m not sure why running the app is causing things to slow down. It literally locks all of our whole computer while it’s trying to do whatever it’s doing before rendering the right-click context menu.

One of my colleagues has already reverted back but it’s a hassle to do so once your project and settings files have all been updated/migrated to 2013…so that’s a last draw for me because I would like to continue to use this platform because for all intents and purposes, everything else is fine. Is there a way to run MyEclipse in debug mode that might provide some details into what it’s doing when I right-click on the menu to pinpoint the issue, perhaps?

We are paying subscribers – is there a more official support ticket mechanism I should open up to get the pay-for help that comes with paying for a subscription instead of posting to the message boards?

    Thanks!

    Brueckmann,

Sorry that you are facing this problem.

We couldn’t replicate the issue at our end. can you please provide us a minimal Google web project that exhibits the problem and send it to us, so that we can check if we can replicate the issue at our end ?

On-line help is available with the license, either through the forums or the ticket system. Further support options are available at extra cost. Please check this link for more information.
