Archived I’m assuming… I’ve never done it before.

Side issue: Archived means (just fount out) that you point it to a jar or zip.
So, I don’t have to unzip the dl!

now let’s see how it goes…

    No!
Neither the LOCAL option, nor the (local)ARCHIVED option worked!!! ARGHHHHHHH!
They ALL, remote, local, archive, display the exact same error popup.
Note, in the screenshot, that ‘space availble / required’ on the panel is blank.
    This, before clicking FINISH.

Also, other option I highlighted are grayed out or blank. I don’t know if that is normal or can reveal the problem.

    Nat,

What you’re experiencing certainly is not normal. I’d suggest that at this point the easiest way to get a 3.8.3 installation is to do a parallel install of it on another instance of Eclipse 3.0.1 as I mentioned earlier.

    Nat,
I agree with Scott, but besides that are you checking your log file for exceptions when this stuff happens? Is this on a network share? Are you the local administrator on your machine? Is there potentially something permission-wise strange about either your Eclipse or MyEclipse directories? Are you sure you can read/write them?

All right. Hey, I agree with Scott too, but that doesn’t explain it. (I was hoping that you folks have quick connections to folks at eclipse.org, who can give you a handle on this funny message.)
Anyhow, I downloaded the manual install, redid everything, and am just now up and running.
And to answer your questions, Riyad, I did not check the log for exceptions, its not on a shared dir, and I am the adminitrator of my machine (I hope), and I don’t have permission problems, and I read/write to them.
    Any more questions?
    🙂

Oh, by the way, we learned something new. You can change your instructions for the dl of ‘archive site’. One does NOT have to unzip that file! You can leave it zipped, and the Eclipse installer will eat it, hook, line, and sinker.
    Cute…when it works.
