vgriffinMemberI’ve just installed 7.5 on a pretty old Red Hat Linux. Whenever I try to save anything, it tells me that I have too many open files.

support-shaliniMembervgriffin,
Can you refer to the following link
https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/troubleshooting-how-to-fix-too-many-open-files-on-linux/July 10, 2009 at 1:25 pm #300386
vgriffinMemberThat doesn’t really solve the problem. I had all other applications closed and was trying to save in a single-project workspace. In previous releases, I’ve been able to handle dozens of projects, some with hundreds of files. It seems more like it’s in a loop of some kind, using up all the files. I removed it and reinstalled 7.1.1 so I could get some work done. I’ve just installed it again long enough to give you details. It’s the 32-bit all-in-one installer.

support-shaliniMembervgriffin,

vgriffinMemberThe number of files was already max’d out.

support-shaliniMembervgriffin,
It is not clear if you have tried the fix as per the FAQ. You should also reboot after making that fixJuly 14, 2009 at 6:40 pm #300516
vgriffinMemberI did not have to make any changes. That’s how my system was built in the first place. That’s why I stated that the number of files was already at the maximum.

support-joyMemberCan you send screenshot of the error and also your error log? You can find your error log here – [your workspace dir]/.metadata/.logs. Hit the PM button and send the files as attachments or send a mail with attachments to support@genuitec.com with subject:ATTN:Joy and refer to this thread.

Riyad KallaMembervgriffin,
After some more research, I’ve updated the FAQ entry with more information:
https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/troubleshooting-how-to-fix-too-many-open-files-on-linux/It looks like both the kernel and shell itself can enforce differing file descriptor limits — setting the kernel one to 200k and shell one to 65k seems to do the trick. Please see the FAQ entry for updated instructions.
