I have been having trouble with myeclispe since ver 8.x. I just reinstalled Eclipse 8.6 from scratch hoping that these errors would go away. Anyone from support know what is wrong and how to fix it? This is very frustrating I love the product but it’s slow, when I open a project It sits there and does something with re-indexing for a long time making the IDE unusable. Have I misconfigured something?

Max,

I think a clean re-install should fix this issue. Please follow below mentioned steps –
1. Run the uninstaller.
2. Make sure the MyEclipse Install Directory has been completely removed
2.1. Pulse Install Directory, on XP it’s under C:\Program Files in \Pulse or \Genuitec, and on Vista it’s under <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local and then under \Pulse or \Genuitec again
3. Then make sure the pulse2.locator file under <USER.HOME> is erased as well
4. Install ME 8.6 using any of the below mentioned options –
(a) Install using all-in-one installer. Download and install all-in-one installer from http://myeclipseide.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-4.html
(b) https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/installation-how-to-install-myeclipse-from-pulse/&highlight=&sid=b157078b39b35c7328085c5f85a2e96a – Install ME using pulse
(c) https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/installation-install-myeclipse-using-archived-update-site/&highlight=&sid=b157078b39b35c7328085c5f85a2e96a – Install ME using archived update site
Please note that the FAQ was created using ME 8.5 as base, please use ME 8.6 wherever applicable.

it started looking promising but when i starte creating project or deploying then all in a sudden error logs again

Max,

I apologize for the messy log, but all these errors (unused keys, keybinding conflicts) can be ignored and will not affect the functioning of your workspace. We are going to try and clean this up as much as possible in our next release.

1) You mentioned that your workspace just “sits there” when you open a project. Could you send me a screenshot of this state? (you can send it on to the support email). What is the exact message that it is stuck at?

You also mention instability. Could you describe this – do editors take long to open or extended time required for content assist? Does the workbench crash?

2) Can you paste the contents of your myeclipse.ini file here? You will find it in the same folder as the myeclipse.exe file.

3) What sort of projects do you have in your workspace, do you have many HTML / JSP / JS files? I ask because in extreme cases we could have memory issues with 8.6, but an update was released which fixes this. To install the update, go to Help > MyEclipse Configuration Center and it will show under Software tab. Note that this is not required if you don’t have too many documents in your projects.

4) Do you use Maven?

Sorry for my delayed response, no worries I will ignore the exception.

1) As far as performance I have noticed that at startup it sits there doing something showing indexing rebuilding the projects I think the IDE is try t refresh or rebuild some type of object tree (maybe validating something). Switching from let’s say a JSP to Java class or a report view also has a lag. Usually I can tell that it will take a while when the IDE menu bar strand right above the toolbar becomes white then eventually it redraws itself

Max,

Your settings look fine. You could try raising the “-Xmx512m ” value in your myeclipse.ini file to “-Xmx768m” to see if that improves matters.

As for the indexing and rebuilding projects, that is typically normal, though should not repeatedly happen unless you are not exiting the workspace correctly.

Are you installing MyEclipse using the offline installer? If so, can you check the build Id displayed under Help > About? If you see 8.6-20100723 as the Id, please go to Help > MyEclipse Configuration Center and the Software tab where the update section will present an update for 8.6.0. Please apply that update, on restart, the build Id should be 8.6-20100806.
This fixes a performance issue with JavaScript that some users experience – only if they have many HTML / JSP / JS files in their workspaces and perhaps your workspace does need this fix.
