Working in any UML model causes MyEclipse to crash abruptly, only happens from UML1 models (UML2 models work ok).

    OS: WIndows VIsta,
    MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench Version: 7.5
    Build id: 7.5-20090609

    Found nothing in the log.

We acquired myEclipse mainly because of its UML capabilites… but this bug wont let us work in a reliable way.

Any further info will be supplied, thanks in advance.

    slashie,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Can you answer few queries for me to get to the root cause –

    1. Can you copy and paste your installation details here? You can get it from MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details.
    2. Is this UML a newly created MyEclipse UML model?
    3. I am unable to reproduce this at my end. Can you share a sample project with us so that we can reproduce this internally? You can mail your sample project to support@genuitec.com, please refer to this thread and add ATTN:Joy in the subject

    2. Yes, it is a newly created model, I first tried creating it inside a Java project, then tried in a plain “project” without any capabilities, then uninstalled the UML2 plugin thinking it was possibily causing trouble. but nothing worked…

    3. I am sending you the project.

    Thanks for you assistance.

Has there been any resolution to this problem? I’m experiencing the same symptoms.

    wmbeers,

The crash reported by slashie was not related to MyEclipse but the user’s hardware configuration. Can you elaborate what steps causes your ME to crash. Before you begin, can you quickly check something for me?
    Please download Prime95 (here: http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4363&file=1&evp=ffc2a25c3011b055346f699a0c02444e)
and unzip it and run it overnight? What it does is compute prime numbers, using all your system’s available RAM and CPU, but it will report calculation irregularities when there is a hardware issue… I find it hugely odd that your installed MyEclipse crashes even if you are trying to create a new project… I just want to rule out bad hardware before we continue troubleshooting.

The link has expired, but I’m sure I can find it elsewhere. However, I’m doubtful there’s a hardware problem.

To be clear, in my case it has nothing to do with creating a new project. MyEclipse crashes (by which I mean it abruptly closes, with nothing noted in any error log I can find, without the usual Windows error reporting screen or any sort of indication something was going wrong–it just winks out of existence) when working in a UML1 document. I’ve narrowed it down to when dragging a class from project explorer onto the document and then trying to move the graphic representing the class on the diagram or select it in the model outline. It doesn’t happen every time, but often enough (roughly half the time) to be a problem. A workaround was to add the class, save the document, and then try to position the graphic in the diagram. If it crashed, I would restart MyEclipse and be able to work with it where I left off. Now that I have all my classes in my diagram it has been stable for an entire day.

Given this additional information, if you still think this might be a hardware issue, let me know and I’ll find and run Prime95.

    Thanks very much.

    wmbeers,
Can you try using -clean when starting your IDE as mentioned in the link below?
    https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/troubleshoot-using-the-clean-command-line-argument/
Also can you switch to a new workspace and check if the issue persists?

Let me know how that works for you.
